USC Well-being Champions are Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) who are making a significant commitment to the health and wellbeing of their members. RSOs are awarded this title when they complete a wellbeing consultation with the Office for Health Promotion Strategy. The consultation process involves working with members of the backbone team to identify what practices and/or policies can be shifted to best support the wellbeing of the organization and its members. Check out our list of current champions.

Which organizations are eligible?

What are the benefits of becoming a Wellbeing Champion?

Wellbeing Champions are eligible to apply for a microgrant of up to $500 to implement a wellbeing initiative within their organization. They receive ongoing support from the Office for Health Promotion Strategy and will be featured on the USC Well-being Collective website.

Steps to Become a Wellbeing Champion

Step 1: Initial Consultation

RSO leaders who are interested can schedule an initial consultation. The first meeting is exploratory; staff from the Office for Health Promotion Strategy team will learn about the student organization, understand the organization’s unique needs or interests, and gather information on the following components:

  • Goals and objectives for the student organization
  • Health and wellbeing areas of interest
  • Policies/practices/procedures within the organization that are related to student wellbeing outcomes
  • Potential opportunities for embedding best practices
Step 2: Recommendations

The Office for Health Promotion Strategy team will provide a list of recommendations based on the information discussed in the initial meeting. These recommendations are based on literature reviews of wellbeing practices for a college student population. Student leaders will review recommendations and select which one(s) to implement.

Step 3: Follow-up Meeting

A member of the Office for Health Promotion Strategy team will check in with RSO leaders to determine progress and work through possible challenges.

Step 4: Reward and Recognition

Student organizations who have completed all prior steps will be recognized as a Wellbeing Champion.
